Use MX Linux, Linux Mint or Ubuntu. I have personally seen Linux servers run 5 years in a closet and never fail even though the business forgot where it was.

Try MX Linux or Linux Mint. Everything is easy in both. MX Linux is a little lighter.

Yes there most definitely are machines running Windows 7 that will not run 10. In my case it was Acer 1. It was able to run a Linux with Xfce desktop... but never going to be a race horse.

I use AirDroid extensively. It will work on anything that runs Google Chrome. Having said I use it, I am still waiting for one that will allow me to send mass sms from a template. AirDroid will not delete sms texts after Android 4.4. Mobilego is a bit expensive and will not run on Linux. MightyText does not work…
