In my 900-seat lecture hall, we had both chalkboards and whiteboards. We always ended up using the chalkboards because it was too hard for students at the back to read writing on whiteboards, regardless of the color marker used.

I’ve always understood the word “excuse” to mean more than “a justification”; it also has the additional implication that the justification is offered as a defense or apology for a perceived slight, defect or fault (incidentally, several dictionaries concur on this matter). Where is the fault here?

But chalk? Their excuses for not using a whiteboard are ridiculous.

No, he’s right on point. Markers smell bad, and if you leave it up on a whiteboard for a few days or longer, it’s a pain in the ass to clean off. The markers dry out and become useless just sitting there. Chalk is great.

I think its denotes Year 3, Class 2, students use to have the numbers on their shirts when doing physical activities, but this is not as common.

Or, y’know, a regular artisan.

You know what’s really strange? My wife is an engineer, and she SWEARS she can get through an identical problem faster just because it’s written on a blackboard with chalk, rather than a whiteboard with colored pens. She thinks her brain was “trained” all those years ago when they still taught on chalkboards. I wonder

Whiteboards are not some sort of unambiguously superior replacement for chalkboards. Chalkboards and whiteboards are just ... different... they each have their good and bad points.

Clearly an opportunity for either East Coast (Brooklyn) or West Coast (Berkeley/Oakland) hipster, artisan entrepreneur to spend an apprentice year in Japan learning the secrets of the chalk and then bring the multi-step labor intensive process to the U.S.

Thank you for clarifieing that for me.

It didn’t go to trial - it was dismissed at the summary judgment phase, which is when all the discovery has taken place, but trial hasn’t happened yet. A summary judgment motion basically says, “Look at all the evidence she has; with all of this, there is no way a jury could find facts that would satisfy the legal

What was detailed in the court opinion were her “contentions” - to wit, that Howard was “permeated with discriminatory intimidation, ridicule, and insult.” The court opinion (which is on Smoking Gun, and both brief and very readable) spells out her claims, and says that she presented no evidence to support any of them.

“As detailed in the court opinion, Dolezal’s lawsuit contended that Howard was “permeated with discriminatory intimidation, ridicule, and insult.”

I don’t know, maybe you’re spending too much time worrying about other people’s opinions? No matter how you choose to have kids, someone somewhere will have a problem with it. Even straight married het couples can get blowback from the ZPG folks.

Why do people *have* to like adoption? For lots of people, it’s very important to have a blood connection with their kids. I guess this is why some straight couples go for surrogates if the woman can’t keep a pregnancy, for example. Should that couple be judged because they did not choose to adopt rather than get a

I can’t wait to see what her hair and makeup looks like when she hits the talk show circuit. Will she double down or dial it back?

Anyone else feel like she’s going to drop the full story and it’s going to be some bull shit excuse like “ it was an experiment to challenge ethnic identity ideas of America...” Or something similar?

It’s all kind of ironic, right?

I don't know if she's more popular. Her show was canceled and one her magazines, Everyday Food, downsized.
