I get that, but I think the ‘being able to see better’ bit comes more from being surrounded in traffic by the F150s and Silverados when it used to be sedans and hatchbacks. I think that came first and spurred the ‘higher is better’ movement.

Subjectively, though, they are almost universally tall and ugly and largely responsible for killing a lot of cool, sleek sedans.
