I drove a '98 (so the same generation as your 2001) EX 4cyl 299,000 miles. My parents bought it new and i took over ownership at around 200k. Here's my take:

"Tidy" in the same way that someone who owns a hardtop wrangler has a hoist in their garage. As much as I too am tempted by this siren there's probably a really good reason it doesn't exist.

it's brown

I'm fairly certain a decent bicycle is all I'd need, certainly after the bridges have fallen down and the roads turn to rubble.

Agreed. 1,000 hours not spent with his son, I might add. He built this for himself, not his kid. I have so many (kid-inspired) projects that get shelved because of lack of time - if you don't stay on top of stuff one day you'll be clearing out unfinished projects that your kids are just too old for anymore.

My folks had an 83 Stanza fastback exactly like this

Lego mindstorms for like $200 because I was 30 and needed to build a robot. So lame

you probably know more than me but 3 days seems like a long time.

Also, it has no transmission in the traditional sense.

it has an optional solar panel but the panel isn't wired to the traction battery; it merely powers a motor that opens the sunroof vent and a fan that exhausts hot cabin air when the car is parked. The thought being that a cooler cabin at startup means less energy used on A/C. It's like a $1500 option though so i

So the 2nd gen Prius (please, don't stop reading just yet) has a coolant thermos and stores some volume of hot coolant when the car is shut down. Upon starting the car up again the (presumably still) hot coolant is immediately pumped back into the parts of the system that work most efficiently when hot - helping

those aren't the correct wheels for that model year right?

My dad used to tell me all about this type of transmission being in family cars while he was growing up but until today I was never able to find mention of it online. Thanks so much for filling in a huge gap in my childhood memory.

call me when you have a kid.

I laughed at every one of these save for the last. You could cover the entire interior of the car with shrink wrap and still my kid would figure out how to stain the upholstery

huh. this changes everything.

Is it $30K before incentives or after? we need the $30k before incentives model.

North Carolina has a similar law for how long you can drive with an out-of-state plate after a relocation. The penalty however is 2 tickets to a Carolina Panthers game.

What color jersey won?

promising a customer that his/her car will be displayed at Geneva prior to delivery is an easy way to sell a car. It may be irrelevant to the rest of us but for 1 person it's probably the realization of a childhood dream-come-true.
