Yahoo Mindset has been lurking in their research labs for years trying to provide exactly this - a sliding scale determining whether the results lean towards research or shopping. I've never got into the habit of using it, as Yahoo's results tend to be poorer than Google's, but the tools are sometimes better.
site down already!
I'm loving eMusic too - but as a Brit, you can only get some bands' older albums, because they haven't negotiated transatlantic rights for the new releases yet. Can be a bit frustrating, especially as they don't seem to alter the recommendations and top 10s accordingly.

Thanks StickyKeys, you give me hope!
I too tried Flurry and it just works incredibly well, especially having faffed around for several unsuccessful hours trying to set up my gmail and yahoo accounts on my Sony Ericsson w800i's own email system.
crikey, a huge response to my question there, thanks everyone. i'll let you know how i get on - if my PC still works by the end of it all ;)
