I didn’t realize “pentalogy” was a word, and if this franchise wasn’t originally announced as a series of five films, would the word have even existed? Off the top of my head, I can’t think of another book, movie, play, opera, etc. that was originally conceived and subsequently executed in five installments.  And of

thanks, but despite all of those words, the author still hasn’t managed to find a quote from JKR that’s actually transphobic. If I want to show why I think Hitler or Donald Trump or Nigel Farage are bad, it’s pretty easy to find bad things they’ve actually said rather than write essays putting forward my

“Mugwump” wasn’t made up for Naked Lunch. It’s borrowed from Algonquian mugquomp, “important person,” originally a chief or war leader. It was then used as a nickname for members of a faction of the Republican party in the 19th century. The similar-sounding “muckamuck” or “muckety muck” is also borrowed from Native

The thing is that Dumbledore’s story as a young man is really depressing. He wastes his romantic energies on an evil wizard and never gets over him. His family is destroyed and a lot of it is his fault. The third films evidently (I am not paying money for this after the second film) ends with him walking away

Even before the Fantastics Beasts movies it was becoming the original novels played to JK Rowling’s strengths because she wrote about what she knew: British politics, boarding schools, classism, racism, general fascistic tendencies. Within that arena she could make sympathetic characters and recognizable villainy in a

He didn’t conveniently forget. Voldemort was explicitly using experimental magic nobody fully understood, including himself. And it was pretty thoroughly established that he was not coldly and logically using it but rather using it out of his own irrational fear of dying.

We could just easily blame J.K Rowlings transphobic views on this lousy performance but let’s be honest...everyone is “Wizarding World” fatigue. We haven’t really gotten any breaks from the “Harry Potter” world when it comes to films. We haven’t had a chance to miss it. I can’t even watch the original 8 films because

Lol when in doubt, blame J.K Rowling for the film’s failure. Her transphobia has ZERO to do with the film’s failure. The real reason it failed is because no one cares about Dumbledore’s relationship with another wizard, gay or not.

Well they would, if Harry Potter was still in these damn things. What people don’t care about is Dumbledore’s secret family tree from decades ago that has no bearing on actual lore in the present that made billions on billions.

Matter of taste I guess, but enough that there are mountains of fan fiction about different characters, some of which is pretty good. Plus there’s the potential to go anywhere or anytime in human history and explore a whole new wizarding culture and different fantastical animals. In Quidditch Through the Ages, Beedle

In the Wizarding World, it’s not so simple. What if he was a animagus who turned into a goat before fucking other goats? Or what if he was an animagus goat who turned into a human to fuck a goat with whom he had previously been intimate and who wanted to see what it was like fucking a human?

I guarantee no normal people care what JK Rowling is saying on twitter. It’s just never been a very exciting series no matter how hard WB pushes it on people.

This movie does confirm that Aberforth does canonically fuck, yes.

And, yes, admittedly: Pandemic.

If you actually wanted to do a young Dumbledore movie, it makes much more sense to set it between his childhood split with Grindelwald and the war with Grindelwald. Like, maybe tell us how Dumbledore actually became Dumbledore. Who mentored him? How did he learn the lessons he imparts on others?

These movies were also just completely unnecessary and struggle with the usual prequel issues. I don’t care about Dumbledore’s secrets because I already know them. Reading the plot of this one, I learned very little new about Dumbledore. I know what happens to Grindelwald. I know who lives and who dies for the most

I thought Depp was a cringeworthy choice even before the Amber Heard stuff came out.  I love Mads, and he always plays an excellent villain, but this franchise has so many other problems that recasting Grindelwald doesn’t actually move the needle for me that much.

I know this is gonna break your heart, but in the grand scheme of things, the percentage of people who are actually mad at JK Rowling is very, very, very small.

Had no idea this movie was out in theaters. I will patiently wait to see this on HBOMax in 45 days. And in that regards, the 18th can’t come soon enough for The Batman to drop on said streaming platform.

The first Fantastic Beast was watchable with some funny characters. Grindelwald was a dumpster fire. I’ll see Dumbledore just to see where the story is going, but I don’t have any excitement for it. I will be donating equal money to trans-supportive causes for every dollar I spend on She Who Must Not Be Named.
