Would I have preferred they come up with a new story? Yes.

“show the world that Star Wars was still a thing” I know this movie is like those events that happened 30 years ago, that you thought were a myth? yeah it’s all true.

In response to 1. They really don’t explain this well. How big/strong is the first order? If it is a remnant of the Empire how does it have the money and man power to build a Death Star that’s 10 times (or whatever it is) larger than the original Death Star?

Job, it’s a pro wrestling term. It’s where you have someone get wasted to demonstrate how powerful the new guy is. I don’t care what you do with the character from here on out you can’t undo that.

The point I’m making is that Kylo says a lot of things that don’t actually explain his motivations.

Yes but Luke is struggling to control his anger and frustation. Why is Kylo tempted by the light side? They haven’t explained this.

“and Heath Ledger’s Joker” Oh hell no! there’s a possibility that they make him a better villain than Vader (very very small chance) but he isn’t and will never be as good as Heath Ledgers Joker (that’s how you do insane and intimidating).

“Despite the fact that he has to know that Anakin came back to the Light Side in the end”Why? Luke is possibly the only one that knows. You would think he would mention it to Leia but I don’t think the movie ever confirms that he knows Vader reverted to the light side.
