Well Hux calling Kylo an Idiot (and justifiably so) undermines the whole powerful threat argument. Not to mention Kylo’s tantrums.

“He wanted to be darkside for whatever reason” This is why it annoys me when people say Kylo Ren is a great character. His conflict is poorly explained, which left me disinterested in him. Finn’s emotional journey was far more human and far better explained.

That assumes that the writers actually had character motivations in mind which considering they used a third death star is frankly giving them too much credit.

Yeah but your assuming there were character motivations but as a pessimist who doesn’t think much of JJ Abrams I believe there weren’t character motivations. I believe Han the Character, even with the emotions involved in trying to save his son, would be more cautious. And Frankly Kylo “I’m a Star Wars nerd pretending

My comment was to highlight that character motivation’s aren’t the only reason a character might do things. You can manufacture a reason for a character doing something dumb or overly complicated but the simple answer is usually hamfisted writing/directing.

“The Force Awakens is... more... impactful... than the original trilogy.”

He’s not on the verge of the dark side. When we meet him he’s killing innocents and channeling his rage. He’s tempted by the light side but he’s already on the Dark side.

“The fact that he’s a boy playing at being a dark lord is what makes him complex, nuanced, and interesting” Nope. Just makes him a better directed and acted prequel Anakin. Which apparently a lot of people think is a good thing (sigh).

He’s a user of the Dark side he should channel the pain to make himself faster and stronger, like Luke when Emperor tells him his friends are doomed.

A wound so debilitating that he hits himself to increase his pain which he channels with the force. This shouldn’t have prevented him winning easily. Didn’t he force push Rey away at the start of the fight?

“I like when a movie doesn’t take me for an idiot” That’s an interesting comment considering how much of ANH is ripped- off in this movie. Also it seems like they are totally going to pull the Rey I am your father card in the next movie. Also Third Death Star!!!!!

“but once the sun darkened he remembered why he switched to the Dark Side” Why did he turn to the Dark side?

“Otherwise, what was the point of getting Han on the bridge?” The writers wanted to parallel a scene from ESB.

Fair enough. I just found his tantrums (I think there are two) a bit ridiculous.

So the scariest part was him throwing a tantrum like a little kid? Not the part where he he stops a laser bolt in mid - air and calmly orders the murder of innocents?

The who call’s Kylo a dipsh*t for being a dipsh*t?

I have watched Phantom menance more than once and you know what ? It’s still terrible!

It’s the most blatant example. It’s sums up a major flaw of the movie. I can go through how many characters and story points are ripped straight out of A New Hope. Why is there a map to Luke’s location? Who made it? why is part of it in R2-D2 and part of it in BB-8? Why is Vader-Lite looking for a droid with important

“The whole split between the two was over their son and what he did to Luke, and Luke left because of their son essentially doing what Vader did despite his training (repeating the same failure Obi Wan suffered). Solo dying, while sadly predictable throughout the whole scene it happened, was due to him going against

Ben was Luke’s son in the EU.
