If your concern is energy/water use, dishwashers make the most sense for single person households. You put your few dishes after every meal in the water-tight box, close it up, then repeat 3-5 days. They're much more efficient and less expensive to run than washing by hand. You're going to use a lot more hot water and water in general washing each plate, glass, mug and fork.
