I have American family, and the biggest difference that I can see between us is the whole gun culture. Canada has lots of gun lovers, but the culture around it is pretty different. Also, from visiting the US I think protestant christianity is more on display there.
We put on a good show and I’m guardedly hopeful at the progress that Trudeau might make in terms of creating an actually just society. But Canada was built on genocide, a genocide that continues culturally and literally. The Residential School system (read up here:
Actually, this is one of the times I’m glad there’s as much publicity as possible on it. Everyone should know that we are welcoming to refugees, inside and outside the country.

I worked in the archive while in college, it was formerly a women’s college and had some of the most amazing pieces. One of my favorites was a “Chap Book”, from the 1800s, a woman kept a notebook of every single eligible man she met for ~15 years. It had their name, location, and little things about them, like…

I think that the backlash against Patricia was a bit ridiculous, but I appreciate that she clarified her statements and learned something in the process. I actually missed a lot of this controversy because I was healing from surgery at the time.
What really needs to change is shitting on people with good intentions and start shitting on people who actually deserve it.
Yep. Her heart is in the right place, she did some research and introspection, and she explained herself. I applaud her for that. I especially appreciate her pointing out that so many trans women are living way below the poverty line- that is a very sad truth in our society, and it’s because of this that a couple of…
Sounds like she’s done more learning and reflection. Good for her.
Another thing about the Charles Whitman shooting:
You left out the best quote: “We love freedom and we’re trying to make more freedom,” he said.
