@Seirei: See that? What you did right there? I think that's exactly what she was talking about.

@Sukie: I also called. My neighbor was in a verbal altercation with his wife while their six-year-old daughter watched. I heard the wife's tone of voice change at a certain point, and then he started smashing the little girl's toys in the backyard. I'm not certain that it got physical against either the mom or…
Wow - maybe Sean Penn is one of those people who has some ground level experience and is actually speaking up about it. If these comments were coming from another volunteer who'd been doing the same thing for the last few months, would we be slamming that person? Doubtful.
@samethingwedoeverynightpinky: Really? Because he's actually in Haiti doing stuff. Maybe not in the way that you, or I, or other folks think it should be done, but I really don't think that makes him a lousy human.
@nourbatta: Oooh, I sense some self-loathing issues on his part!
@cpjones: It's not too late to turn back. You can still stop. We want you back.
@allisonlynn0122: so what's the story with that?
@crotchety: I have a friend who over uses, and as a joke/helpful reminder I interject "figuratively" whenever she's using it incorrectly.
@lynbird: Honestly, it was probably somewhat cathartic for that person to tell a stranger to fuck off, so in a way you certainly helped.
@SamIam24: Agreed. The not-talking is the nicest gesture you can make at that point.
@enidcoleslaw: I also remember that photo from childhood. My parents had a book of photos from life magazine which also included some pretty heavy stuff from the US Civil Rights era. I'm so glad they let me look at the pictures and objectively answered my questions.
@sinead.elliot: Holy hell, what is that?
@Aninhaa: Same here. I once ordered size 8 shoes, and they sent size 9 (although the box said 8). I sent them a quick email and they apologized, immediately refunded the $10 shipping and gave me the choice to keep the size 9s or send them back for a credit. I ended up giving the size 9s to a friend for her…
@SarsDoesntSave: Is it an issue facing WOC or an issue facing a white woman who was hired by a magazine? Or is it an issue of a magazine making decisions that are being judged through a racial lens? Or is it an issue of systemic and institutionalized racism against an entire group of people? I mean, there are…
@lumenatrix: You just summed up my point completley. Anyone can be racist. I should be more specific and say "racially prejudiced" in order to be in line with the definition provided above, but that's what I meant.
@Lida Rose: You're right! I hate learning and thinking which is why I'm participating in this conversation!!
@Lida Rose: Wow, that was pretty condescending, thank you. You don't know me or what I've read to come to my opinion. That said, just because some activist/lecturer writes a blog post about the Myth of Reverse Racism doesn't make it fact. Wow.
@SarsDoesntSave: That was just one person's definition of racism. My definition is "making a decision based on a person's race"
@SpartanLady: I don't think I'd stop reading Jezebel if they hired a male writer.
@precipice: If they do not have the means, then how will they ever become equal?
