It’s such a better song. It should have been the anthem. But then again, there’s something fitting about the US choosing a song about battles and explosions over a song that extols the beauty and bounty of the land. The Star Spangled Banner better fits our American hubris and self-importance.

This is the thing that I think gives me the most pause about taking an EV on a road trip. Sure, there may be a charging station where you need it, but if you have to wait for three cars ahead of you to recharge, you’re going to be stuck there for a loooooong time.

Shoulder seasons for the win!

Agreed. It would at least be more interesting. Although I have to admit that I was intrigued by a Richie/Chef Jess hookup when he was staging at Ever.

I’ve never been so glad to have quit on a show after two seasons. I could see that it was going nowhere and, worse, that the people creating it had no idea what they wanted it to be/do. I bailed like two episodes into season 3 once I saw that none of its issues were getting fixed.

Exactly. I honestly have no idea where anyone gets the idea that there is a slow-burn going on there. I watched the clip in the embedded tweet about the editors wanting to suggest there’s a spark there and I don’t see that at all. Plus, I think Syd is clear-eyed enough about Carmy to see all the ways that homeboy is

I just finished the season and I gotta say, I don’t see it. I don’t see Syd/Carmy chemistry at all. That scene underneath the table is compelling because both characters are being vulnerable, but not in a way that induces any sort of sexual tension. But I will admit that I find “ship” culture to be completely

The Bear and Somebody Somewhere have been my antidote to the disappointment that I felt with S3 of Ted Lasso. The Bear has nailed the sort of single-character episodes that Ted Lasso bungled so badly this season. The Bear lets the development occur in measured increments. It gives the characters difficult moments and

“Forks” is so completely engrossing and it just hits all the right notes. I watched it last night and then immediately watched it again because it just felt like it needed a rewatch to do it justice. It was full of so many subtle but vital moments.

And if you build a drive-through that can accommodate a whole lot of cars, it creates another problem because it’s a terrible use of land/space in a city environment. The drive-through creates a little “island” restaurant in the middle of a sea of cement (ie: the parking lot/drive through lanes). It’s a really

WaPo and others are reporting that human remains in some form have been found. I shudder to think what form that might be. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/06/28/titan-submersible-human-remains-debris-recovered-titanic/

Hey, you do you. To each her own. We made the choice that was best for us.

Can we swap, and send Seacrest to the Brits so that we can have the delightful Graham Norton? Please? We just managed to get rid of Corden, and now to have Seacrest back just feels like a slap in the face.

Grass is much more durable than clover when it comes to thinks like kids trampling all over it. In our yard, with our drainage, clover would not hold up well.

We’ve taken this middle way as well. We’ve still got a lawn, for reasons of curb appeal and livability (the kids have to play somewhere). But we’ve installed several large beds where we’ve planted pollinators and native plants. So we’ve reduced the overall area of our lawn by about a third, I would say, thus reducing

I know that hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but just hearing Rush talk the way he did about the problems the sub was experiencing would have been enough for me to nope right out of there. It all seemed so casual for an outfit that wanted to take inexperienced tourists into the most inhospitable reaches of the planet:

The article makes it clear that the Navy reported what they heard to the Coast Guard immediately upon hearing that the sub was missing:

I think it was very telling re: rescue vs. recovery when articles kept talking about the equipment the US Navy has that can raise something of that size from the depths of Titanic. Those articles all made it clear that: 1. the ship needed to get that equipment there had not been chartered yet and 2. Even if the

It’s about time. I’ve been automatically rebooked because of cancellations/delays twice in the past 9 months, on Southwest and American, respectively. Both rebooked me and notified me on my phone/through the app. Then the app let me see the rebooking as well as my options to choose a different itinerary if I wanted.

Again, I don’t see anywhere where these rules say that releases have to be theater only, so I’m not sure that you’re being forced to go back to a theater to see a film that otherwise isn’t available on streaming. Nowhere in these rules do I see that it specifies that films are theater only. The old rules required a
