And if grilling isn’t your thing, turn to your trusty slow cooker. I love grilling, but hate that it means someone has to tend the grill while everyone else enjoys themselves, so now we do pulled pork for most of our bigger summer get togethers. It feeds a crowd and once you put it in the slow cooker in the morning,

And it takes either of my parents about 15 minutes to enter their username and password on the TV using the Roku remote. If they had to do that every month, they would probably just quit watching TV.

Plus, pretty much all AirBnB type rentals have smart TVs now rather than cable service. I’ve had to enter my Netflix credentials to watch TV at every AirBnB I’ve used for the last eight years at least. Now Netflix is saying our accounts won’t be portable that way. Fuck that noise. I’m not toting an HDMI cable and a

Summer classes are a great time to get some gen ed courses taken care of. But be careful not to overload. Because the summer terms are condensed (often 4 or 6 weeks), they are both marathons and sprints. I often had students in summer courses who were trying to take 4 courses at a time, and they struggled even if they

Some students really like taking a summer course so that they have more breathing room during the semesters. Somewhere around 45% of full time undergrads and 80% of part time undergrads work jobs while they’re taking classes. Almost 30% of fulltime undergrads are working jobs that take up 20-40 hours of their week. I

Same here. I’ve been up with a friend who is a commercial airline pilot and who also flies small planes on his own time. He’s let me take the controls and shown me some basic stuff while we’re in the air. That stuff is so fun. But when it comes time to land, it’s all you, buddy. He makes it look seamless, but I would

I’m really sorry to hear that. I avoided covid for almost three years before catching it late last year. I “recovered” pretty quickly, in that I tested negative within a week of showing symptoms. But the effects definitely took longer than that to wear off. I would say that it took a full three months before I

My exact thought process as well.

OMG, you’re right. I didn’t make that connection at all! Zach Cherry is so good in Severance.

Caption competition for the header image. Here’s my entry:

Haha, I got interrupted mid-comment and forgot I’d already included it. So now it’s so nice it’s in there twice. (Starstruck is funny, though).

I honestly don’t make the distinction between HBO Originals and HBO Max shows. That probably speaks to the larger problem of branding that you’re talking about. But since I stream everything, it’s all sort of the same thing to me since it’s all delivered and consumed in the same way.

I like this take a lot.

I personally liked “telling Barry that he’s amputated his arms and legs off.” I hate it when my legs get amputated off.

I cackled—cackled—with delight at “Why do I keep opening these?” The best comedic line and delivery on Barry in years.

Yeah, I don’t get it. HBO Max had a rough launch, but it’s been the streamer that we’ve watched the most consistently in our house over the past few years. Seriously: Succession, Barry, Hacks, The Righteous Gemstones, The Last of Us, Starstruck, The Flight Attendant, Mare of Easttown, Starstruck, The Tourist, Perry

I don’t have a trader joe’s within easy driving distance, and the peanut butter cups are the only things I really wish I could get.

I noted most of those things, too (former editor turned lit/writing prof here). They didn’t stand out to me, however, as errors resulting from an ESL writer. They just seemed like clunky writing, and with the way that these recaps roll out, some of that is to be expected. If I recall correctly, I read somewhere that

That’s an interesting perspective. I hadn’t known Ms. Gajjar’s background, and for what it’s worth, as a native English speaker I don’t see much evidence of her Indian-English education in her writing. If the worst she’s got going on is the odd malapropism, then that’s not too bad. It’s really the sort of thing that,

Yeah, and Tabitha disappears, ne’er to be seen nor heard from again, after season 2. RoyCo Managment trainee guy, we hardly knew ye. So all he really has is Gerri, and that relationship is so twisted and unhealthy. It’s not a friendship. Roman is completely the embodiment of Logan Roy’s ethos of “he never saw anything
