The most expensive car you’ll ever own is a cheap Mercedes.

It’s not so much the ink “diffusing out” as the skin can change due to flexing/growth/shrinkage. On the calf this is less of a risk than, say, the shoulder or a bicep. Or your ass.
This is trash. Part it out.
That’s coming. The Chinese already have multiple options in that price range that people would actually want. Why we don’t get them is a long, complicated question but it basically comes down to the Chinese building EVs long enough that they have a massive head start. But yes, that’s coming here. And in the meantime…
I get all of that and as much of an EV advocate as I’ve become, I’ve had to recognize that too many people live in situations where they just won’t work given the current tech and infrastructure.
100% on this.
Better charger options are the solution to that. If there were a charger at your work that would help.
My very first car was a red ‘76 Celica SR5 Liftback so I’m totally with you.
What’s hilarious about the whole culture war aspect of EVs is that it’s the red states that are overwhelmingly benefiting from the new manufacturing capacity for them.
Depends on how the car is driven. A recent study in Europe found that most employees who had been given PHEV company cars didn’t bother charging them.
Yeah, and in Europe researchers found that when employees were given PHEV company cars they tended to run them almost exclusively on gas. So I agree that this assumption is suspect.
I know I’m piling on, but the PT is an easy winner.
Objectively, yes, this is a good deal. It’s not “just” the color, it’s the Performance trim, too. And Enhanced Autopilot ain’t cheap (assuming Tesla lets you actually transfer it to the buyer’s account).
By “packaging” I mean you lose all the space advantages that an EV has. No chance of having a frunk, for instance, and you wind up with the need of a tunnel to route exhaust. A “pure” EV platform is a lot more flexible for packaging.
I don’t think people realize how close we came to this in 2008 before the big bailout. Many politicians were screaming that the automakers should all be allowed to fail. I don’t know what these people were expecting the result would be.
I get the attraction to PHEVs. For years I just assumed that was what I would do myself, but when I looked at how I actually drive I found that an EV would work just fine for me.
Beautiful car. Great condition. Well-loved. Too expensive.
ICE-to-EV is the largest “platform migration” consumers are ever going to have to face. As much as it’s a cliche, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
I honestly liked that gen. It’s not my favorite (the ‘79-’83 is my personal champ there) but I thought they were trying to do something interesting, unlike, say, the late ‘80s retro-ish body.
This is another one of those posts that tests the NP/ND concept. It’s not “is it a nice price for me?”, it’s “is it a nice price?” period (at least in my opinion).
