Probably. But I give props where props are due.

Love it.

Yes, turn up, Dems. We should all be calling the Republican committee chairs to demand the joint investigation.

Because promoting arts and interesting programming that teaches as well as entertains is good for society.

Because there isn’t. 500 Channels of hitler, jesus, bigfoot, honeyboboo, and adults playing with balls.

All of those little nothings add up to nothing. I suggest looking at military spending, since that’s what makes up over 1/2 of discretionary spending. A report in December discussed $13 billion in wasteful pentegon spending. So, if we take the amount of money it costs to fund PBS out of the $13 billion the pentagon

“The government” isn’t an independent group or person you know. It’s the collective voice of all the citizens. “The government” doesn’t decide for you what ‘quality programming’ is, your fellow citizens do by asking PBS to make those choices.

We know that’s true because it wasn’t made before PBS and it isn’t made outside of PBS.

Why spend money on the best domestic news coverage?

The corporation for public broadcasting costs taxpayers less than $1.50/year per person. PBS is an even smaller slice of that. For that little money, we get programs that wouldn’t be made otherwise, like the one shown above. It’s daft to NOT pay such a small price. Taxpayers would get very little back and lose so

Gang-rape is democracy in action.

The discretionary budget is $1.1 trillion. PBS gets $450 million.

Access.

Because it is relatively cheap and invaluable to the people who watch it.

PBS directly aids education you idiot. I cant think of a better allocation of government funds than providing free (emphasis on free) public access to exceptional children’s and adults educational programming, world class documentaries about the world and American history, and world class long form video journalism.

Hey! We found the greedy fuck.

Because a society should give a shit? Why can’t we spend money on things that actually do some good?

The point is the profit motive is limiting and corrupting. Just look at what the news media has become under market forces. Allowing full freedom from profit concerns allows highly informative and valuable content and perspectives that would otherwise never be produced.

Hahahah... Saying there’s “quality programming out there”. No there isn’t. There hasn’t been anything decent on TV in more than a decade.

The point is: who gets to decide what is “Quality programming”?
