I think probably because the reaction to peanuts can be so acute so quickly.

My wife also has a wheat allergy, so peanuts are good. My mother in law is deathly allergic to peanuts, so she only flys Alaska if possible.

I flew from PHX to SEA a couple weeks ago and a family of 12 in group B were trying to get seats all together. It was a CLUSTER.

It works especially well when flying alone. Even with two people on a short flight, it’s not the worst thing in the world if you can’t find two seats together. In my experience, most people are willing to switch seats when asked to allow you and your flying buddy sit together.
