Thanks, man. I have like 3 or 4 linguistic prejudices left, and that’s one of them.

That is an interesting thread.
That’s the most succinct and cogent argument I’ve heard about this whole ball of shit. I’m personally very vulnerable to the “just be kind” arguments, so thanks for that. I think our own personal vulnerabilities to specific arguments are what get us into many of these comment-messes where everybody shouts at everyone…
You’re the hero I can’t be.
So, Kotaku commenter tells site to “stick to sprots”, I guess? Deadspin is laughing.
I was going to be mad about you sullying the good name of the world’s awesomest muppet, but you saved it there.
I loved teaching A Modest Proposal, but my favorite part was going over the section where Swift loses the satire and gets serious. It’s the most damning thing in there, and it’s part of what these idiots miss about the satire. Swift made sure that his point was readable inside the satire. It’s the section that starts…
I always have to remind myself that the hipster Williamsburg that everyone talks about is not the one I’m thinking of.
I’m really, really hoping for a tie. I wanted at least 4 0-16 teams, but if I can’t have that, I’ll take an 0-16 team or two and 2 0-15-1 teams.
Whose whole point? Which person are you talking about when you say “That’s exactly what he’s arguing for”. Are you talking about the tweet from Warren Sharp, where that quote comes from? Because it ends with saying that it’s the start of “the entitlement era” for football, which is a really loaded term to use if…
This fucking species cannot end soon enough.
Exactly. I mostly liked this essay, but I hate the unquestioned use of the term “intuition” as if it’s any less varied than anything else. Perhaps if your intuitions weren’t against vagueness, this isn’t a problem.
I was trying to articulate the same thing about Roth’s articles. Like, I roll my eyes at most of the “hey look at me posting an ineffectual takedown of Trump. Come give me the clicks!” articles, but I find his posts to be just so insightful and enjoyable.
Re: Leadership. Even in 2015, I was trying to tell people that one of the worst aspects of Trump is that he didn’t acknowledge the responsibility and leadership of being a Presidential candidate, much less a President. I was worried about the harm he was doing as a candidate, and that the irresponsible shit he was…
“A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.”
He’s still on twitter. Not quite as fun as the original.
I liked the first one better. Fucking slobs cooking healthy at home.
This is the best article to ever appear on this site. Thank you for sharing.
Yeah, but this thread has become awesome for the corrections.
