I’ll be honest, this network of sites approaches unusable with the ads enabled.

I don’t know how the ads are for your US-based readers, but just today I whitelisted Jezebel, clicked an article and got a shrieking full-volume autoplay video screaming at me about the Amazing Race, which honestly I didn’t even know was still on. I use ABP and don’t mind minimally intrusive ads —The Root’s vertical

Literally everyone I am friends with uses a computer to browse the web, among other non-work-related things.

How noble of you.

For the LH writers/editors - do you folks browse the other GMG sites without ad blockers, by choice (i.e. not mandated by the corporate overlords)? If so, what do you think of the experience?

This goes both ways. If blogs promised to quit using irrelevant auto-play videos and excruciatingly slow scripts, I might consider turning off the ad blocker.

Either you’re infected by malware, or your standards of what you consider obnoxious are insanely entitled.

“I don’t use a computer to read web content, and my friends don’t use computers to read web content, therefore nobody does”

This seems like the sort of article Lifehacker staff might read the comments to, so.

but are unwilling to actually support it.

“I don’t use a computer to read web content, therefore nobody does”

The last three virus / spyware problems I had got in through ads.

It’s not that we’re not willing to support it, it’s that we have a limit of what’s acceptable to us as users.

**Turns off adblock and reloads page**
No Autoplay videos, popups, or obtrusive ads

Comment section is exactly what I was expecting. People got adblock for a reason. That reason hasn’t gone anywhere. Fix the problem, and maybe people will reconsider. Instead, it gets worse like the current fad of autoplay videos.

Oh, also, is it malware that makes the page jump when an ad loads ~5 seconds after the rest of the page, making me click on the ad (or some article I don’t care about) instead of the thing I’m interested in?

Is it malware that’s making an obnoxious, unrelated-to-the-article video play in the middle of every single blog on this site?

All I can do is laugh... I just complained about this the other day. So now you’re not only running popups that complain about my use of an adblocker, but you’re writing articles asking me to whitelist by favorite blogs?

It’s bad enough everything is diving behind paywalls, or subscription services, and every tom dick

Can you whitelist in Adblock Plus while still using it to disable specific items? I use it to remove those stupid unrelated autoplaying videos the gizmodo sites have halfway through each article now that drive me nuts.

How do I blocked unwanted, invasive, resource and data hogging auto play videos that have nothing to do with the content sought by the consumer?
