Yep. I live in California, in a supposedly very liberal and ‘enlightened’ area, and it’s still bad. California has additional parental leave rights in addition to the federal 12 weeks job protection (12 weeks of paid leave in CA!). My husband works in the tech industry. When our first was born my husband attempted to

My work has gone to paid parental leave (2 mo), and short term disability for 2 months, and the two months paid includes all birth and adoptive parents. You’re starting to see men take advantage of it, and that’s great, but the consequences for them are so minimal. If anything they are lauded for taking time with

Capitalism wants more workers, doesn’t want to cover the labor and expense of creating them and so offloads it onto current workers while still demanding the total output of their labor for current industry.

I work in higher ed, which is typically fairly progressive and family friendly (at least relative to many other sectors). I’m also a single father, for all intents and purposes. I’ve managed to work my way up the ranks to basically the highest point I can get to in my field, which means many of the people I work

So now that shitty parental leave policies are affecting men (because more men have realized they want to be more involved as parents) does this mean we’ll finally get some improvement in paid parental leave? I guess it wasn’t important when women were asking for it. Sigh.

It’s like society wants you to have children and then it punishes you for having children and at the same time hates you if you don’t want to have children.

I think pretty much everything else Charles ever does or says or thinks is more ridiculous than the toilet seat thing. I think more people would do this if it were an option. And someone upthread pointed out that sitting on other toilet seats could create some unsavory royal souvenirs for enterprising people to sell.

Just the opposite. When Charles visits overnight somewhere (I think this is only for private visits; I don’t think he does this on tours) his retinue packs up his entire bedroom and lots of other stuff and reassembles it in whichever room (or suite of rooms) Charles stays in. I wonder if he knows the word “futon.”

You should read the Daily Mail excerpt, it’s loaded with goodies. One of the things is Charles and Camilla always travel by private jet, and the way the jets have to be outfitted is a nightmare.

I’m not even feeling bad that I think they won’t last.

My “favorite” experience to tell people about is when I got sexually harassed IN A CEMETERY while searching for a relative’s grave. True story.

I know that confused me. Maybe he means he wasn’t by Justin Trudeau first, that’s what I’m thinking.

If only pretty women were harassed then why have women in burkas been assaulted? It’s not like you can tell if a woman is pretty or not when all you can see of her is an eye slit.

I would totally do this with cheese. Sometimes I’ll treat myself to a small chunk of fancy cheese from the $3 and under bin at Whole Foods. If I don’t eat it fast enough my kids will steal it.

I don’t understand the part about Charles not being invited to Canada “first.” He’s been here plenty of times between 1970 and 2017, and with both his wives. What am I missing? More importantly, WHY DO I CARE?

Demanding booze on-hand at all times

I needed this. Now. If anyone needs me I’ll be shouting my demands for scotch and a cardigan from the restroom.

Barbra, please stop perpetuating the myth that only “pretty girls” are the ones who get harassed. You do immeasurable damage to the movement and silence women who are already afraid to speak up because they will be judged by their looks and not their story.

I don’t think Harry and Maghan will last. Which makes me 1. Horribly cynical 2. Way too invested in celebrity gossip. I don’t know why I read gossip, I like myself a little less every time

His mother does this as well apparently. One of her...I guess ladies in waiting (?) carries the, um, royal throne.
