Eliza isn’t (fully) human though...she’s a hybrid from a previous human/fish pairing, with vestigial gills, who was abandoned as infant.

Thanks, now I want to quit my job and run a B&B with Peter Gabriel..
Don’t say “and stuff”..
Wasn’t this their plan all along? Make some feel-good announcements that sound great, but will fold faster than Superman on laundry day when faced with age discrimination suits. Then they shrug their shoulders and say “whelp, we tried, now back to business”

I’ve thought that too from the start, but it may be if that Eliza is not human (which the film definitely takes pains to make her origin...murky), it then undercuts the love story of them being from two different species too much, and is therefore an “unpopular take”, to use the parlance of our times..
Watching in the theatre, I knew it was going to win Oscars from the two scenes that are catnip to the academy - the foot-tapping scene on the couch, and the creature in the movie theatre staring in awe at the magic of the silver screen. That’s not even getting into the b&w dancing scene...

QT should’ve had her drive the darn car...
Going-to-the Sun Road is so distinctive...I look at that picture and immediately “The Shining” theme starts playing in my head..
