I must admit I’m a sucker for the more mythology-heavy episodes, so this one kind of paled for me after the glorious Morphic Trilogy. It was sweet and funny, but it didn’t really *do* much, if you know what I mean.

Wow - just watched the episode, and that was...sad. I mean, I felt sad. The episode itself was amazing. It simultaneously tied up a bunch of loose ends while also introducing whole new teams of characters. I have no problem with the pace of The Venture Bros. For me it’s a feature, not a bug.
I think PICS should be the one dumping that jerk who clearly favors old photos of an ex over his current relationship.
I don’t disagree, but it seems like both takes on The Death of Superman could be true. The creators wanted to show Superman’s continued relevance to a ‘90s audience, while DC wanted to make a lot of cash on a collectible item. I don’t see the conflict there — in fact it’s a win for everyone involved.
BUT SHE’S NOT EVEN A REDHEADED JEWISH WOMAN DRAWN BY J.H.WILLIAMS III HOW CAN SHE PLAY BATWOMAN IT’S IMPOSSIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess we’ll all be having a good cry in late November/early December. Pencilling it in now!
My point wasn’t that there aren’t enough trans man actors to fill the role. It was that strictly matching the personal characteristics of actors to the characters they play is limiting for everyone involved, including trans men trying to break into Hollywood. Because you can use the same argument to not give trans men…
The Reorg Borg!!
Wow — this made me realize how long I’ve been coming to the A.V.Club for my entertainment news and commentary (12 years, maybe?). Lately, it feels like I’m reading the site through a haze of advertisements and politics, but I can still see the heart of the place beating away deep inside. I hope the sale attracts…
The more I think about this story, the more I’m on Ms. Johannson’s side. I know that this particular character is a missed opportunity for a trans man to have landed a big, juicy Hollywood role, but you know what else is? Every male role in Hollywood. Insisting that the actor chosen for any given role fits the…
We must have read different reviews because the ones I saw lauded the movie for handling a difficult subject with skill and nuance. There’s a difference between calling the film “heart-breakingly lovely” and calling the relationship perfect. Mostly because the relationship involved a lot of heartbreak — that’s the…
Dear God,
Yes, we are okay with it. Because sometimes art is difficult and forces us to look at things we find uncomfortable. And because not every movie that features a same-sex relationship has to be a shining example of perfect homosexual love. That’s not a fair expectation.
It’s precisely because I don’t know who to trust (or what reality is) that I’m such a fan of the show and of this episode. I get that this has been a difficult season of television to watch, but only if you expect the show to follow a reliable TV format. It doesn’t do that because it’s exploring characters who are not…
I don’t know how to make fancy quotes, so: “the two of them talk to, past, and around each other constantly”
So sad! I must have read those first two issues a hundred times knowing they weren’t going anywhere, but hoping...
While I was completely invested in Ptonomy’s death — I actually thought he was getting better when he was vomiting up the black stuff, then felt terrified and sad when he got ripped open — I can see where this criticism is coming from.
I’m so curious — I’d love to know who you’re thinking of, if sharing isn’t giving too much away. Vermillion obviously have similarities with Grant Morrison’s Cuckoos, but there are too many differences for that to be a direct comparison.
1. That’s a great question. I assumed it was another plan of the Shadow King’s, like the Amy/Lenny body swap. He seems like the kind of guy who would create as much chaos as possible to keep his opponents off balance. And Ptonomy didn’t infect everyone else until after David broke things off with the SK.
I don’t know what Sienkiewicz is up to these days, but I wish he had time to draw us some more comics. I subscribed to The New Mutants comic by mail right before he took over art duties, and OMG did that blow my 11-year-old mind. Thanks for sharing the promo art! Gorgeous and cheeky, as usual. :)
