I've heard lots of remakes of this song, and they are all bad. The original is a perfect marriage of synthesizer (dated) and soul (timeless), and when you try to cover the song earnestly, it tips way over into cheesy. It can't be done.

I agree with every single living person that The Family Stone is a terrible movie.
I was similarly surprised to see this criticism pop up for this book. I want to state for the record that I agree that there should be more diversity among the creative teams at Marvel, DC, and Image. I also agree that there should be more diversity among the characters in comics, although to be fair there is more…
Of course reviewers can make mistakes. In this case, though, it seems like the whole review suffered from a serious lack of consideration. It doesn't take long to figure out some of the characters' motivations, but those were skimmed over and counted as "flaws" in the episode. The bread/cake mistake is just another…
First of all, it's not bread. Laura's baking a cake for Toby to get back on his good side after yelling at him earlier. Who bakes two round pans of bread and then puts icing on them?
That's what I like so much about this show — and about Haigh's Weekend — it's a show about gay men that's challenging to gay men. It doesn't shy away from showing racism, classism, and internalized homophobia. It's interesting because it's slow and uncomfortable and non-fabulous. We're just regular folks, it turns…
That's kind of harsh. There are lots of ways that Patrick could grow with someone like Richie. In fact, I'd argue that he needs to date someone who is a strong individual to learn how to act like one. Up to this point, he's just been doing what he thinks his parents would approve of, and he's miserable. Not…
Thanks, H3ff! You're totally right — apparently, you can find all of the music on the HBO site. I didn't even realize.
As long as we're playing the "what song was that" game…what song was playing when Dom and his roomie (Doris?) were in the aerobics class? So fun!
I'm surprised there wasn't a second event on the anniversary of the first — another storm, or everyone loses their powers, or…something. Maybe that's coming in the finale. It just seems to me like Misfits can have one of two endings:
Abbey is great, isn't she? And it totally makes sense that an imaginary friend would get involved in a weird fairy tale romance.
1. Surely the point of the climactic scene between the probation worker and Finn was that Finn accessed a stronger version of his usually pretty lame power. It wasn't the focus of that scene, but that was on purpose, right? I'm pretty sure we're going to see more of Finn's power growing before this series is over.
Standing on a Beach (cassette version) was a revelation to me in high school. Such a range of perfectly realized songs. It's the only Cure album I still listen to aside from Disintegration.
I totally agree. Their mix of soul and electronics was amazing. Nothing Annie Lennox or Dave Stewart has put out (solo or together) since the release of We Too Are One has shown evidence of the experimental spirit that they had as Eurythmics. They seem to have drifted into adult contemporary (Annie) or pure rock…
"It’s not beyond the Dowager to manipulate Clarkson and Cora a little for what she sees as the greater good, but I find it interesting that it seems like the audience is supposed to be unperturbed by her actions. "
I didn't hate this episode, and I actually liked it much better than last week's because at least they gave Matthew something to do. I like the idea that Robert and Mary pester him into becoming more involved, he does, and he finds some purpose to being at the Abbey. And if he's really the heir to the place,…
Good point. I hadn't thought of it that way. Nightwing does seem a little out of his depth at this point, doesn't he?
"It really would have been a good idea for Nightwing to tell the team’s most powerful member what was really going on, but because she was left out of the loop, she reacted with the kind of force that she now uses on all of her enemies."
