That’s some great empirical evidence there. ;)
“... the high-fructose corn syrup used in most soft drinks isn’t easily metabolized by your body...”
I don’t understand the point of this. The title seems to assume you already have a budget; if that’s the case, then you already know what you’re spending on eating out. What would this exercise prove? I can see the value in it if you don’t budget but just spend willy-nilly. But LH readers don’t do that. ;)
Beware the Fitbit Charge. Both my wife and I have had ours since Christmas and they’re both falling apart. Go to their support forum and you will see that the problem is widespread. The rubber part of the band separates from the plastic body of the device. Also, I have had a lot of issues with flaky Bluetooth…

Cool. I like the idea. But I wish they would include the pronunciation.

I tried Nature Box for several months and wound up canceling. The snacks are definitely high quality and taste great — no doubt about that. My issue centered on the fact that nearly every month at least one of my choices was sold out and I received a substitute. Also, the snacks are too expensive for the amount you…
That’s what I was going to say. The Epicurious author makes it sounds as if “used” ice is somehow different from “fresh” ice. It’s not. As you say, drain the water but don’t waste the ice.
I assumed the other 30% was to go for non-essential expenses. Do the people who came up with this actually have a life?
Great. That would make their products only marginally overpriced. ;)

Thank you, Kristin. This was a very useful article. I’m going to seek out and read more of your stuff.
Okay, that kind of makes sense. Still, it seems to me that its simpler and more accurate to just use a measuring cup. It’s not like it’s difficult to remember 2:1 ratio. ;)
Far be it from me to question Asian moms and such, but I just don’t understand how this can work. If the key is getting the ratio of water to rice correct, wouldn’t it matter how much rice is in the pan? Using this method, for a given diameter pan the amount of water would always be the same, while the amount of rice…
I was using and writing “apps” long before smart phones, tablets, and touch screen UIs came about. Somewhere along the line someone got the idea that apps means only mobile apps. I guess we can thank Apple for that. I even know people who think the word “app” is short for Apple.
The facial recognition is either the most amazing thing ever or a bit creepy. Somehow it managed to recognize all of the photos of my grand baby, taken from the time he was a 1 month premature newborn until now, nearly one year old. Hell, I don’t even recognize some of them as being him but Google does.
Yep. Thanks.
As others have pointed out, you need an invite and the one mentioned on their Twitter feed (BETA19) is not working. I am following them now and hopefully they will tweet a new one soon. I’m sure they’re getting bombarded by LH readers.
Yikes. How embarrassing, LH.
Very interesting. This lines up nicely with recent studies about how willpower works and makes intuitive sense. It also validates why my own past strategies have failed. I need to implement this. Thanks for a very helpful article.
