Mom?
Mom?
Yeah I’m with you. I don’t know anyone that really relates to Simmons any more. He’s almost exactly my age and demographic (although Daddy didn’t pay my rent while I bartended like Bill’s dad did), so his early stuff resonated strongly, but seemingly those of us in that demo have moved on a bit. Bill’s writing really…
Simmons hit a chord with a certain age/era of fans. For a while his work was extremely worthwhile.
I have a sneaking suspicion that U2 will soon replace Bruce Springsteen as the go to band that every white, middle aged, out of touch sportswriter loves and mentions constantly in an effort to appear hip.
People ask us why we harp on Bill Simmons a lot here and the answer is because he’s the most powerful, influential sportswriter in America.
I’ll always remember 1991 for the most dismal, depressing season any team has had. Not bad per se, just miserable. It was the year the wheels came off finally from one of the most colorful teams in baseball history.
LeBron already said something once this year and nothing changed. He gets hit in the face at least once a game by someone swiping for the ball and they don’t blow the whistle.
You forgot “getting hit by a car”. It’s a Deadspin staple as far as lists go
People who I would want being the public face of a movement to get the referees to be less vindictive:

Because who needs six rings like MJ when you can knock out those perennial title-winning New York Knicks in the second round of the playoffs?!
I’m still confused as to why a documentary called “Winning Time” featured Reggie Miller and not his sister (who seems to have way more experience in that field).
Agreed. I tell my patients every summer and fall that a group of intelligent scientists get together in a room, look at the data... and take their best guess as to what mutation of the virus will be prevalent about 10 months into the future. Sometimes, they guess right. Sometimes, they don’t. But it isn’t a…
Yep, and the difference this year is the Australian flu mutated AFTER they picked the originating strain. So the strain they have is less effective because its the one that birthed the current mutation, not the mutation which would have been more effective.
Nobody knows which virus will break in any given year, and the vaccines don’t keep long enough to stockpile them. Manufacturing many hundreds of millions of flu shots isn’t an instant process, it’s not even fast. So each year, they watch for very early flu trends as they compete for victims (this usually happens in…
Pretty much every insurance plan of any kind gives them to you as part of the plan without additional cost because it’s much cheaper for them to give a person a flu shot than it is to treat complications from the flu like hospitalization from pneumonia.
Here’s the truth: everybody who outwardly pretends to have a principled or conspiratorial objection to flu shots, as if they are operating on some insider knowledge about epidmiology and virology, is, in reality, just a pussy who never grew out of their childhood fear of needles.
“turn off location tracking on your phone if you already have it on, and say “wow, yeah, those things are weird, wonder how that turned off? lemme fix that, is it working for you now?””
What the hell are license plate covers for?
