Native Americans is generally acceptable, but not the only proper term. Many people use American Indian as well, but as always, wikipedia has more about it [en.wikipedia.org]...

That's only true if you're going to be displaying it on a portrait-oriented monitor or are going to be compositing. Since we're talking about cellphone cameras here, you won't be doing either of these.

I agree with your reasoning, but I would suggest always comparing prices with your local insurance agent. I got a personal articles policy from state farm that protects about $5,000 worth of camera equipment against defects, theft, accidental damage, etc. and it is $84/year with no deductible, which is far and away

If you go back and read, I didn't name any brands of vermouth. I have both Dolin and Martini in my cabinet right now (and I think there's a bottle of Cinzano somewhere in there too). I'm not saying any are objectively better; my point is that since vermouth is pretty damn cheap compared to other alcohols, go ahead and

I know a handle is 1.75l. I don't see how that factors in when a handle of Smirnoff is $25 or so.

Sadly, they don't make that many scotches in small sample bottles. Start with Glenlivet and Laphroig. Most people don't like Laphroig right away - it is very oily and smoky, but it'll grow on you or you can pretty easily find someone to give it to. You can easily get tiny bottles of Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Johnny

An alternate list, for people who are frugal but still like things that taste nice:

Maybe because we have the right to lead our lives without other people's prejudice, judgement, or religion being forced upon us.

I agree - my login is completely different from everything else I use on the internet, because Gawker is a weak link in the security chain. But if I log in with my Google credentials, and Gawker gets hacked (again!), then my Google account could be compromised as well. Even without the obvious privacy issue of

that just depends on how far away you are.

That's true. My primary has been a 40D for a while, and I've pretty much resigned myself to using the center AF point and recomposing. What lens are you using? I'm not sure how good the AF sensor is on the t1i, but many of the 5dmk3's AF sensors are only sensitive below f/4, and some are sensitive at f/2.8 and below.

If you want to make manual focus work, a split-level focusing screen that'll make it much easier. However, the basic model here [www.katzeyeoptics.com] costs $105, so not really worth it if you're going to buy a new camera anyway.

the AF in the T1i is far and away better than the mk2, but you'll get a jump in image quality. If you're shooting your kids, or anything that moves around, stick with the rebel or go mk3.

Digital cameras aren't made to be manually focused - sure, on many you can swap the focusing screen to a split-level, but the focus rings on most lenses aren't set up to make it easy to manual focus without actually looking at the lens because they don't rack out at the extremes. Couple that with smaller viewfinders

I don't own one, but I've used it a bit, and I agree with what I've heard from most everyone else: The AF sucks. It has the same system they put in the 20D, and trying to autofocus in shadows anytime other than noon is a pain. The best way to shoot a 5d2 outside of a studio in low light is with a canon flash on top to

Some of that may be mitigated by distributing the writes over multiple cards, but the real problem is that you're going to get fucked at some point by any number of these problems, so knowing how to recover your data is pretty important.

The only thing keeping me from going straight to a mk2 is the autofocus. That camera has the absolute worst AF Canon (a company with legendarily bad low-light AF) makes.

sure it would. He's got a light bar or softbox to camera right below the screen to give detail in the fingers, which results in a small highlight. There's probably another one to his left at a shallow angle to give definition to the edge of the ipad itself. That highlight can't come off the ipad at that angle; the

I wish that were true, but 90% of the articles I've read on Gizmodo today have had several misspellings or serious word choice errors.
