On new cars, yes. Older ones retain it.
Oops, there goes the last refuge of EV skeptics!
Try again:
2013 Model S85, 98,000 miles, battery capacity 98% of new. Was 231-257 miles at 90-100% when purchased Dec. 2013, now 226-251 miles at 90-100%. However, Tesla is slowing down its peak rate of supercharging, to protect and preserve the battery, for the past couple of years. It helps that it has free supercharging,…
The weight penalty is a red herring. In a PHEV that drags around an unnecessary gas engine, tank, and exhaust system, no one seems to know how to implement effective regenerative braking. In a BEV, the extra weight is pretty much without effect because kinetic energy is recaptured by regenerative braking. AND you get…
There isn’t any such fuel. All burning emits CO2. You can try for carbon that was recently sequestered, and argue that your release will again soon be consumed, unlike carbon that was sequestered millions of years ago, but it’s still a new release of CO2 and it still contributes to global warming. We must stop burning…
This is a matter of personal “drivestyle” and there isn’t a single answer for everyone. If you typically take a long evening or overnight trip after commuting and doing local errands all day, you’ll want the longest range you can get. If you only occasionally take longer trips, much less range will be perfectly ok.…
Happy to see GM has woken up. When I test drove a Bolt, it came with only a 120 V charging cable and the 240 V cable was an extra $1000. Now it would go even farther if they would assist in persuading apartment landlords to allow installation.
I’d prefer a Tesla Roadster 2.0 any day, and it would be much more affordable to buy or maintain.
Don’t gas powered trucks also lose comparable amounts of range when hauling a trailer with heavy load? That may be less of a concern since fueling stations are plentiful. Won’t the same be true of electric trucks when fast charging stations are equally plentiful?
Three cheers for Tesla staying out of this. I hope this points to a new direction for them, but am skeptical.
Excellent article!
You can get a good result with a normal lens as long as you have plenty of pixels. Take the picture from farther back, and then crop it down to the car itself in post-processing. Portrait mode on some phones may work to get the background out of focus.
This article should be republished after revision by someone who actually knows what a “heat pump” is and how it works. This is nothing more than an electrically powered air conditioner (conventional auto AC is engine powered) that is reversible so heat can be pumped either into the car or out of the car, without…
That’ll look really great when it gets closed up for the EV version...
I’m skeptical that it has anything to do with cargo space. I think it’s about a soft ride on roads that, let’s face it, totally suck in many places.
MX-5 has sameish engine?
They guesstimated a value of $4500 a few years ago on Jalopnik. Then it sat and rusted and got brittle, and nothing improved or appreciated... Sad!
Weren’t synchros invented to make that unnecessary? Trying to save your synchros is like trying to save your throwout bearing at stop lights?
