Today’s Li-ion batteries are degraded more rapidly when charged faster than 1C. That means a full charge in an hour. 300 kW charging of a 100 kWh battery is 3C, and it will cause the battery to lose capacity far more rapidly than slower charging rates. How about doing something like this with everything held fixed except the wheel diameter and sidewall height (to keep overall diameter constant). Folks seem to argue incessantly about wheel size and it would be great to have a scientific test...

I’ve driven the Tesla autopilot system enough to have concluded that it is not worth the money to me. I take it to be an expensive form of electronic entertainment: watching the robot do a few things passably well.

Noise and smoke make a car seem faster, eh? Call me old and addled, but this is a juvenile part of Jalopnik I could do without. The true measure of performance is acceleration per unit noise/smoke, which means let’s have more of the former and less of the latter. You want a dumpster fire, go find a dumpster.
LOL! I did this around 1980, to a 1974 Dodge Colt. Drained the mixture and used it for lawn mower fuel the next 3 years. The Colt was not harmed a bit and went on to 150,000 miles for me, at which point I sold it easily as it was still in great shape.

Gas tax hasn’t been raised for decades! How easy can a fix get. It should be raised until the price of gas is prohibitive, like the tax on cigarettes, and for more or less the same reason. Meanwhile, I’d suggest taxing tires. They’re the things that actually wear and tear on our roads.
