I don’t think they’re shooting themselves in the foot. I think this is them making their bread by doing what they are paid to do and will be paid to do after they move on from their current specific positions. They are doing exactly what they are paid to do.

Sure, other than the ballot access in America is systemically rigged (not in a “cheating” sense but in a logistics sense) in favor of the Democratic and Republican parties, nothing is stopping them at all!
