My friend laughed at me because as the trailers came to a close, I put my hands to my face and whispered/pleaded, “please let this movie be good.”

What about Hunger Games?
The underlying sentiment of what he’s saying is completely right on—and he says it arguably in stronger terms than those quoted here. However, as right as he generally is, I don’t think he’s right that it’s obscene that the bulk of the money went to the families of those murdered or nearly murdered (i.e., the people…
I guess I’m not entirely getting what right the UK courts have to block this or why they’re even doing it. I mean it sounds like the parents are paying for it themselves (our at least with money donated to them), there are no other alternatives in the UK, and while the US treatment is entirely experimental I haven’t…
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I would never give up fighting for the life of one of my children, rational or not. I don’t think there are any bad guys here, this is just really, really sad.
That is heartbreaking. I cannot imagine the pain the parents are experiencing.
This kind of stuff drives me insane...as a parent myself, I would absolutely want to exhaust every possible medical option available knowing that my child is going to die without a miracle or experimental treatment. The court should show a little empathy for the parents, and for Charlie, who undoubtedly deserves a…
Prachi, the statistic about divorces is interesting, but i do think divorce is so heavily stigmatized in India especially for women that it is not seen as a viable choice at all. I think patriarchal pressure exists in multiple forms in Indian culture before and after marriage and walking out on an abusive or an…
I do not think these divorce stats are quite the strong argument you make them out to be.
I think there is nothing inherently wrong with arranged marriage. Having your family find a suitable person for you via a selection process is certainly a better system of finding a mate than what most people I know did, which is getting drunk with people you go to school with or sometimes work with.
Agreed. I think the steady diet of right wing talk radio has poisoned the minds of millions.
While I’m not going to say there is no bias in news reporting, I think the biggest problem is that people (right and left, though more on the right) have increasingly begun having intensely hostile reactions to ANYTHING they don’t want to hear.
Eighteen months makes sense to me, when you consider pre-production, production, promotion, awards shows, all that bullshit, and also a personal life – she has young kids and a spouse in the entertainment industry, too.
I’m not gonna demonize her for this, as odd as it came out. Her heart is in the right place. She seems like a good person who is willing to evolve. And with the lack of female directors getting as easy funding as men, every 18 months sounds pretty good, especially with the clout and star power she holds in…
I got in a long Facebook argument with a stranger over this (it was midnight and I couldn’t sleep, Facebook arguments are my ambien) who said DeVos didn’t do anything wrong because now FINALLY parents have a choice where they send their kids to school, like that’s not already a thing that is allowable. I explained…
Who is “fucked with” often enough to necessitate creating a catchphrase about it? Who repeats it often enough that a friend has it printed on cocktail napkins? Answer: an asshole.
