Five of the Canadian women played for the U.S. university I work at so I had to root for the hometown girls, but by the third period I was hoping the U.S. would win so they could be put out of their misery. Stayed up till the bitter/sweet end at 2.15 a.m.

They play a World Championship every year. So once a year you can watch Canada and the US play for something (they also play a ton of games against each other leading up the Championship). When you only have one nation to actually compete against (and can improve against) you end up playing them a lot.

Looking forward to days of “Canada has lost its way” hand-wringing in the national newspapers.
