I haven’t bought a car with a drive-away price, but I believe so - it’s possible the Luxury Car Tax is not included if applicable.  That would change things somewhat.

Australians would have to deal with the exchange rate, import taxes and possibly the Luxury Car Tax if it ended up over the threshold, which combined would possibly almost double the price to get one here. The same kind of price hike would likely affect Australian 3rd party importers who tried to do this. It’s a shame, as I would have liked to see them here.

You’re right, but the one thing that does cross the country regularly are trucks, often multi-trailer road trains. It’s a technicality, but arranging with trucks that are already headed that way to bring the oil is approaching net zero. I haven’t been west of the Victorian border, so I can’t say what that drive is
