I don't have trouble swallowing pills with a bit of water, even when I'm taking five or six at once. But if I attempt to dry-swallow one and it gets stuck, I've found that eating bread tends to help get it down.

My parents had a pill shooter, which basically crammed the pill halfway down their throat. I just settle for holding mine's mouth shut and periodically squirting water into his mouth with a dropper and then cleaning up the cat-drool mess after.
