Yup. I have a friend who’s a former congressional intern. She 100% got that internship because her parents are friends of the senator she worked with. I mean, my friend is a lovely person and extremely smart, and I’m sure she legitimately deserved the position on merit alone...but so did a shitload of other people…

It’s not just a matter of unpaid internships. Congressional internships are very often based on your connections, who your daddy (and mommy) know and whose campaigns they donated to.

I think unpaid internships are one of the main ways structural inequality is reinforced in the US right now, while allowing people to pretend the US is a meritocracy. They should be illegal.

Let’s compare that photo with a recent photo from the Mayor of London. Diversity the one thing that scares Republican party and UKIP, they can unite on that.

I think even the potentially Asian fella two heads behind him is slowly converting to the whiteness.

Is it possible that ... he actually is so white that it’s contagious? Maybe there *were* several African-Americans and Latinos in the group, but after repeated Ryan exposure, they TURNED WHITE?
