Its interesting that you mention that “deplorables” statement because it seems like you didn’t actually listen to what she said. This is the rest of her apparently damning statement:

That’s called a cognitive negativity bias. It aligns with the conservative platform. For someone like that… There is literally nothing that can be done. The conservative brain is hardwired differently than the progressive brain.
I worked and went to school in Winston Salem. I’ll tell you that at my first job at a newspaper, one of the mayors of the surrounding towns/county called and said they didn’t want a black person covering their town halls. So, if people downplay the racism part of this, you are not looking at all of the angles.
Not her fault you refused to listen to her
I did vote for the candidate that actually acknowledges my daily struggle to exist in this country.
In 2004, one year after nearly everyone in this town lost their jobs under a Republican presidency, they voted to re-elect Bush by 33 points. In 2008, with the economy in shambles under a Republican presidency, they went for McCain by 18 points. It’s clearly not just about jobs with them.
I love this article. For the record, as a Liberal coastal elite, I don’t blame small town Americans feeling upset or worried because the factory jobs are gone. I do blame them for endorsing a racist platform as the answer. I do blame them for voting for local and state level politicians that do nothing to help them. I…
George W. Bush was bad. His election didn’t embolden white supremacists and signal to men they could grab women by the pussy. It didn’t introduce an immediate sense of dread in children worried their parents would be ripped from them.
Why did it take a white woman on the ticket in order for so many white Democrats to register a fact that has been true for 50 years? I’m fucking serious. Instead of fussing over all those other white people who voted for Trump, maybe this is a good moment for self-reflection. If it surprises you that a majority of…
This morning I heard a co-worker (whom I respected!) say, “If this country is so bad, then get the fuck out.” As an immigrant and a WOC I was infuriated. I had to get up and leave my office. I am conscientiously apolitical in my office and have encouraged others to do the same. I just. I just cannot. This is funny,…
Are you being willfully obtuse or are you just that privileged? People aren’t just bummed that their pick didn’t win, as I was when GWB took office. People certainly aren’t accusing Trump of not being American, or of being a Muslim, as they did when Obama took office. PEOPLE ARE SCARED SHITLESS. And rightly so,…
“He’s black and we hate him” are not good reasons. Trump repeatedly questioned Obama’s legitimacy and gave rise to the birther movement. If you still think that makes me saying #notmypresident ironic, OK, fine. I accept my hypocrisy. But I do see a difference.
We can’t keep promoting the lie that both tickets offered valid options that deserve equal respect in the democratic process. When one side is making appeals to fascism and promising violent assaults on marginalized communities, isn’t that more antithetical to our ideals and the sustainment of the US democratic…
Keep it up, Ashley. You’re fuckin’ killing it.
This isnt deadspin. Its The Councourse.
Is it really that hard to not click on something you don’t care for / want to see? I’ve literally never clicked on a baseball article on this site. And there were those “Cardinals lost” articles almost every day!
nah
See, the difference is I’m not questioning Trump’s legitimacy as president. He won it fair and square in our shitshow of an election process. I don’t literally believe he’s not the president like the Obama haters did. But he does not represent anything I stand for or any of the values that actually make America great.…
Yeah, I just had to tell a young woman at work, that yes, her “nice” white friends who voted for Trump because they wanted “change,” not because they’re racist, can fuck off along with the KKK. I told her that to people like me, there is no difference between an openly racist person and a person who simply doesn’t…
