There used to be a guy in the 70's named Werner Erhard who ran these seminars called “EST”.  Can’t remember what they stood for, but from what I read, they basically involved a bunch of people sitting in a hotel ballroom with this guy Erhard yelling at them about how they were worthless and denying them bathroom…

I actually went to something similar back in 2005, but it’s because my boss signed me up for it. He billed it as a leadership conference. When I got there, I lasted an hour before I got the hell out of Dodge. I am pretty sure it was a cult. If it wasn’t, it was just plain weird (Landmark Forum).
