One thing to keep in mind is the rule book and what classes you are thinking of running. Particularly if you’re thinking you want to do multiple disciplines (track, autox, hillclimb, etc)

specifically Neon ACRs. Look for ones with fog light holes but no fog lights (at least for certain years) 

I knew someone with a 944 and just for Autocrossing he was spending thousands and thousands every year on upkeep and he was in stock class. That was 15 years ago - I doubt its got cheaper.

There is a guy who has built a PHEV logging truck that looks really interesting. His use case is - battery charged up at the start of the day, drive to the top of the mountain on electricity, pick up logs, regen all the way down with all the additional weight, repeat. My dream is to do a Corvair build. Possibly as a EV. Maybe the van as well. They are still cheap and lots of abused ones that I wouldn’t feel bad about doing a conversion on. I would like a stock Turbo model as well at some point. Of course - no time, money or space at the moment.

Considering how much camper vans have been going for this seems like a deal if you wanted to make it into a full RV inside rather than looking like a car rental office at a regional airport.

That basically when I use it as well. And it is nice - but as you say, you have to be hover hands / feet the whole time. 

I don’t see how they will ever get to level 5 with the current cameras / sensors.

A friend of mine had a Audi 5000 Turbo which threw off a coolant hose out in the middle of nowhere. So he lost all his coolant and needed a way to get those hose back on.
