I can see that. It’s good that she admits her mistake but there is a it of please forgive me and stop asking in the background.

Yeah, but his “spin” boiled down to saying the girl was pimped by her mom*. In what universe would that make any sane person say, “Ah! Well then, no big deal”?
Thank you for dismissing the “but she forgave him” excuse. It was “The State versus Roman Polanski”, not “Samantha Geimer versus Roman Polanski”. Once charges are filed, the state comes in to take over: many victims of intimate partner violence “forgive” their abusers in an effort to get charges dropped - either out…
True, so true, but for years Polanski has been spinning alternate versions of events. A lot of these people pretend to have been somehow duped or confused by this (Whoopi “rape-rape” Goldberg springs immediately to mind).
The thing I feel like I gained from it is empathy towards people who have made mistakes.
I started watching Grey’s from the start a couple weeks ago (I’d watched it up to maybe the 6th season then gave up cause it was too bananas) when I was sick and, now that I work in the medical/research field I’m just consistently horrified. Where are the ethics boards?! Where are the regulatory colleges?! Why are…
I remember when that petition was making the rounds. I did something completely crazy at the time - because I didn’t know the exact details of the case - I actually READ both Polanski’s confession and the victim’s statement before expressing an opinion. Nuts, right? I mean who has 10 minutes to spare?
ALL TV shows about law, medicine, politics*, police work, life in your 20s, etc. definitely give viewers wrong ideas about what the field is like in reality.
I’m with you. (holding fist in air)
I’m an old too and I don’t know when one turned into the other. Something something young people, something something phones.
Additionally - in things like yoga, you need to see the body better to make sure you’re doing the positions well. I’m taking an adult beginner ballet class and the instructor told us to wear leotards or tight workout pants because she needs to see how our body looks in the positions. Is the knee extending more than it…
She’s got it all wrong: Sweatpants are awesome for regular life, but terrible for working out. There’s too much fabric, so increased friction. Plus, when you sweat, they take forever to dry. Sport tights/leggings are the far superior choice for working out, from a practical POV.
Republicans want to operated as a centralized government when States are siding against them and decentralized when anyone tries to implement on a federal level that they disagree with.
Yes, I was confused about that for a second but then I remembered that conservatives routinely have their own definition of what words mean and they have nothing to do with reality.
As a federalist, I believe that power should be decentralized
It works pretty well though. Few of the deaths from school shootings were from locked down classrooms. A large part of the problem is it can be hard to tell if the shooter is right outside the door, down the hall or across the school. So you open that door and he’s in the hallway, you probably kill yourself and…
I can’t say for all schools but most seem to have absurdly solid doors that would be exceedingly difficult to break into. As well as fairly solid opaque walls. A .223 generally won’t penetrate a mortared and braced Cinder Block wall and loses most of its power if it manages to. It won’t penetrate a concrete block wall…
Republicans sure don’t care. They will pretend but they don’t give a shit. I’m talking about the politicians AND the voters. Don’t deny, don’t pretend, don’t bullshit, you actually don’t fucking care. It is because you are shitty human being and the rest of the entire fucking planet knows it and laughs at you. Some…
Shame there’s literally nothing we could do to prevent school shootings.
