I can see why the daughter he barely knows will be there, but why Marla? Why does his ex-wife get to attend and have a budget as if she is family, particularly when he has had so little to do with the daughter he had with her?

The UN had ruled that she was being tortured. Her sentence was fucking excessive and it was slowly killing her. The fact you say it was not means you have not read any of the details or you do not care.

She pled guilty, cooperated with the investigation, and as Noble Renard noted the sentence was indeed excessive compared to previous cases.

Regardless of how you feel about Ms. Manning’s actions, her treatment since then has been awful and I think that this is not a bad thing, especially given the treatment she might have received during Trump’s reign.

Her sentence was the longest sentence for any leaker, ever. Yes, the leak was huge, but as the NY Times points out, none of the material was classified as Top Secret.

I applaud the Obama administration for this move. She has suffered enough, that’s become extremely apparent. I doubt she would have survived another year or two, let alone the remaining thirty years of her sentence.
