Agreed, I think a powerstroke or duramax is a bad choice as well. The ISL9 and DT9 are 9-Liter medium duty truck engines though, and far more suited to this application.

The engine load would suck. This is something that us normals don't really understand about heavy loads.

The mileage would probably only improve 1-2 mpg, but then again, that is a 25% increase for this thing.

I had my own post about this: the problem is the engine is overtaxed. It has the old 6.5L Detroit Diesel engine that was used in Humvees and the 90s GMT400 trucks. For its weight and size, "The Beast" would get better fuel economy and return better performance with something like an ISL9 or DT9 engine instead.

As to the diesel, one problem is it uses the old 6.5L GM turbo diesel. As heavy as this thing is, it really should of gone with something like the ISL9 or DT9 engines. It is just an overloaded engine as things are now, which is why it is returning poor fuel economy and poor performance.

I tell you what, Amtrak's prices are looking better and better.
