Depends on the judge and the nature of the proceeding.  I replied further up but one of my areas of practice is adoptions.  Judges in my cases are generally very empathetic and understanding and want to make the kids in the court room feel comfortable.  To the point where the jury box is literally filled with plush…

Considering that I see English-speaking pro se plaintiffs in state court matters having difficulty comprehending court proceedings, this takes the cake.  

They’re the enablers of tyranny. Society is full of people like this, authoritarian lickspittles who will willingly do anything, no matter how heinous, as long as its “The Law.”

I always assumed judges had the discretion to, you know, have a little empathy toward a 4-year-old that’s facing them in a big scary courtroom and that they actually, you know, exercise that discretion. I don’t want to live in a country where that is not the case.

How do these judges justify their behavior?  Are they just following orders or do they really think children as young as this should be treated as any other potential criminal?

I told the judge that I obviously my client was not able to understand the nature of the proceedings. The IJ disagreed and went forward.

Exactly, there’s no way anyone who’s 3-4 years old understands what’s going on in a courtroom. I think Jack should experience firsthand what’s at 15:00 before he tries saying any more BS.

This is so fucked up, and it’s just a bargaining chip for the administration. Torture children to force Dems to make cuts to legal immigration (and make Donald feel like a big man). Abusing children doesn’t make you “tough on immigration”, it makes you a vile person.
