Hmm, the VW has no clamshell hood, headlights that align with the grill, lower and simpler foglights, body color A-Pillar, and no quirky C-Pillar? And that’s just comparing the 3/4 view. I don’t see it.

My vote goes to mid 2000s Mercury Mariner. Note what looks to be the trim on the upper bumper, the body work around the licence plate, and the taillights.
