I’m sure the Black girls, and women, Kelly abused find that a comfort.

R. Kelly preyed on black women because he can get away with it. Period. So long as he can wrap his defense in his black skin (like he did during the pee-tape trial) no one is going to go after him. No one is going to take down a pillar of the black community, someone who “got out” and succeeded despite.
I had a trans guy as a professor in college and some of the shit he said was the most ridiculous misogynistic shit I’d ever heard. He was also convinced I was using my best (lesbian butchy) friend for... Something? Like he legit pulled her aside and told her to be careful with me. Wtf? He hated feminine women. It was…
Yo, anyone else notice how this year, almost all of the most terrifying stories don’t have anything to do with the supernatural, and are all just horror stories of living men who terrorize women?
Last year Cattrall did a 45 minute long monologue for BBC Radio 4's Woman’s Hour on the years when she was overwhelmed by insomnia. It’s genuinely fascinating.
So KC wasn’t stroked the way she wanted. I kind of get that. She was involved in the show for its entirety then did the stupid movies (1 was okay, 2 was an abomination) but the producers (one of which is SJP) went to her reps instead of her. That would bother me as well.
I saw Cynthia Nixon on the street once and I still cannot get over how radiant her skin is and how beautiful she looked with blond hair and a normal hairstyle. They really uglied her up for that show.
“Wildflowers” was the soundtrack of my early 20s. I listened to it today in full and I don’t think I realized then how much of his own shit he was laying bare. Now, as a grown up with a complicated marriage, I get so much more from his later music. God I’m going to miss him.
Bowie was shocking, Prince was devastating, and Petty is abandonment.
I’ve always admired Tom Petty* but hadn’t thought I was overly acquainted with his opus. Boy, have these threads proven me wrong: you are absolutely right — so much of his music has formed a tapestry for having been raised in the seventies and eighties.
In Stephen King’s ouvre men and boys are raped in Different Seasons, The Library Policeman, It, The Stand, The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining (if you consider non consentual sex with a ghost rape; also the rape of Dick Halloran), The Green Mile, The Dark Tower series, Salem’s Lot.
I get what you’re saying, but to say that King doesn’t know how to write female characters that haven’t been raped is a little over the top. He’s written a ton of great female characters that don’t get raped, and there are a bunch of his stories that have strong, genuinely well-written female protagonists/heroes.
Pretty sure Andy (the hero of the story) gets raped in Steven King’s novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. (Andy/Tim Robbins definitely gets raped in the film adaptation.) This doesn’t change your point, just noting the exception to the rule.
There is rape in some of his books, but he never glorifies it or blames the victim, and he never portrays it as a man just being unable to help himself. And there are far more of his books without it.
He’s written about a gazillion books. If they were ALL about rape, you would have had a point there. But they’re not. And since he writes about people in the world, it would be strange if none of his characters were ever raped since sadly, that’s something that many women have experienced
No, it was the same eclipse in both, which was an actual eclipse that occurred with totality in Maine in the early 1960s
I read this wayyy too young; I was 16 and it was my first Stephen King novel. I chose it because it was relatively short (for King) and sounded intriguing. Those of us who have read it will no doubt be wondering if her very real, very fucked-up visitor makes an appearance and if so, how much of the character will they…
Exactly. I guffaw at the assumption that marriage is the end-all be-all of human existence! Maybe marriage SHOULD be declining.
So, since a lot of people seem to have forgotten, Mark Regnerus is a Catholic fundamentalist asshole who published a “study” that purported to prove definitively that gay people were not good parents. It was a trash study, and did a lot of damage because at the time it gave anti-gay-marriage advocates an excuse to…
Mark Regnerus is warning women that no one buys the cow when it gives the milk away for free.
