Punching Nazis shouldn’t be illegal. It’s a goddamn American pastime, ffs.

How is that on him? He is absolutely right, there is a pervading attitude that men aren’t allowed to care about their diets because “that’s for women.”
Unpopular opinion as someone getting a PhD in Russian stuff: I do not like Masha Gessen. She has some good scholarship and was an important LGBT activist in the west, but most of what she publishes in western news sources is heavily pandering to her audience. The post and the times publish her because she is a Russian…
Really, Paula White’s message is very similar to the grim variety of Protestantism that dates back to Colonial times and has always been on the back burner of American life. Helping the poor was considered to be a dangerous thing back then - after all, the concept of predestination told them that poor people were…
mainstream Biblical teachings of sacrifice exemplified by Mother Theresa
The Gospel is truthier when its spoken by a pretty blonde lady telling you how to use it to make monies.
The dominant feature of fascism, historically, is that it does offer a lot of people something very attractive - stability. I have Russian people in my family, and their example is telling. They KNOW Putin is a dictator and kills opponents and whatnot. This is not a case of ignorance. But he does offer a degree of…
Only WE can save us. The idea that a one savior could swoop in and single-handedly fix what are really complex and collective problems is the type of thinking that allowed Trump to thrive. A massive surge of grassroots participation in democratic institutions might mitigate or slow down the destruction of those…
If you want to never sleep again, you should read The Man Without a Face. It’s about the up-from-obscurity rise of Putin. She wrote it a few years ago so it would be great to have it updated, but I imagine it’s much more chilling now. I read it three years ago but can’t get it out of my head.
If we could just do this every night for at least the next four years, that would be great.
She IS a traitor, and DOES deserve to be in prison. Maybe not for 35 years, but for longer than what her commutation takes her to. The oath of enlistment, not to mention all the various things she had to do to even be trusted with access to that information mean that she’s isn’t a whistle blowing hero in this case,…
Wow. She put so many lives in jeopardy with the info she leaked, and you are hoping for a fame and fortune filled future for her? Cool.
She deserves to be in prison. She’s a traitor.
No she got the punishment she deserved in accordance of the UCMJ. Now I agree that her sentence was IMO unfairly long and most likely motivated by Snowden backlash. But to say she should have never been been subjected to punishment is absurd.
Considering the size of the leak, her sentence was not excessive and she deserves to be in jail. Not a fan of this decision.
Here’s my impression of the average Washington Post commenter and my reaction.
There were many people in the Washington Post comments on their article regarding the closure who were quite upset at environmentalists, government officials, liberals, and Obama for destroying American traditions. Quite an interesting read.
Nonsense, it’s just a squared off hat. The points are evocative of ears, which is a common way that whimsy is added to adult clothing. You’d see that if you weren’t clinging to respectability politics so strongly.
I think you should carefully examine the respectability politics you’re pushing here.
