Comparing any JRPG with Suikoden 1 and 2 is just unfair, they are both perfect, and their plot is so great for the same reason some anime like Seirei no Moribito and Juuni Kokuki are so great over other anime of the same genre, they are based on novels! The narrative is already strong and well built.
