Every day I read the news and want to grab the american people by their collar and yell “how could you let this happen?!?! Make it stop!! For the love of god, MAKE IT STOP!!!!” I am so angry at america for inflicting this on the world. Even those that didn’t vote for him are complicit because they didn’t do enough to

Me too. Which adds a feeling of powerlessness to the anxiety

BRILLIANT.

Narcan saved my brother-in-law’s life more than once. Fuck anyone who says that these drugs are a bad idea.

It’s reported as a bad thing because drugs are bad, kids! You should just not ever have them, so you should obviously never own a thing that would save somebody’s life.

Exactly! I carry around my own Naloxone kit because of work, and I always make sure to bring it to house parties. Fentanyl has completely overrun the drug supply in Vancouver, and I literally had to reverse an OD on an acquaintance at a party just a few months ago, and another one on a city bus. Harm reduction is a

It really does. In BC the problem is so bad the government will put on a training seminar at your workplace and supply free Narcan if you promise to use it when it’s necessary.

Did anyone else read the headline and consider it a bit of a contradiction? By what measure is the US considered a “developed” country if it can’t provide the basics like clean water, good education, or healthcare?

but we have the greatest health care in the world dammit! /s

Had not even ever heard of it before this happened and had no idea that it was readily available until it was announced on the news last night that I could pick it up at the drug store. I feel the need to get some now and carry it with me in case I ever happen across someone that needs it. Fortunately the coverage

NYC has many flaws and living in it is not easy but one of its many virtues is that it tries to keep as many of us alive as possible.

Even if you don’t know people using opiates, some states have a standing prescription that cover the cost at certain pharmacies for anyone who asks for it. It’s incredibly easy to administer and it’s not unsafe to have, so why not keep it - especially if you live in an apartment with a lot of neighbors, etc.

Yes yes yes. More people should have Naloxone and be trained in how to use it. I don’t personally know of anyone who uses opioids, but I keep a does of Naloxone in my desk at the university. You just never know. I started about two years ago; it was easy. I called the local health department, signed up for a training

All of this. I work in an area that is known for its community of drug users (back when I was in high school and it was less gentrified it was referred to as Smack Street) and whilst it is not as bad as it once was, we could still use members of the general public who know how to deal with an overdose beyond calling

I really, really don’t understand saying those people aren’t her true friends. The logic there being that... if an addict knows there’s no noloxone around, they won’t use, because it’s that simple and well-reasoned? But if they know noloxone is at hand, then they feel safe and secure in shooting up? With that (insane)

Thank you. While I don’t know anyone who abuses opiates, if I had even an inkling that someone I interact with did, I would learn how to administer naloxone and carry it around with me just in case (I live in a state where you can do that). Addiction is a disease, full stop, and you can’t save someone from that

It’s because they want the junkies to die. To teach them a lesson. There’s no other reason to be against it.

This. It is no different than carrying an EPI pen. If there is a risk of a deadly issue that can be solved immediately by those around us there should be no shame whether it is a peanut allergy reaction or an accidental overdose (Fentanyl is partially responsible- it is a great drug for the right uses, but its

I’m so sorry you’ve had people close to you go through this. It’s so scary and sad. People on the internet are garbage.

This and the GoFundMes for people to be able to afford basic life-saving medications/surgeries
