Or are you saying something because you’re noticing an event or behavior in this world you feel many people can relate to, and that you want to call out in your specific experience so that maybe you can connect to some other people? I think that the ladder there is really useful to me.

Same with people complaining about remakes, if you look at Hollywood history, remakes were happening before the industry was a decade old

I love the argument that there are too many adaptations these days, like adapting other work to film is something that was just invented 20 years ago or something, not the way Hollywood has worked since day 1.

The only reason they exist is an opportunity to make money. It’s not any deeper than that. I’ve seen some people online insist that it’s an opportunity for the story to reach a wider audience, but from the perspective of the people making it, a wider audience just means more $$$.

I still like rooting for you guys. You are like the New York Knicks of countries.

“Tenet” was... fine? I certainly don’t regret seeing it. But this weird thing where “we” (speaking loosely) decide that certain people (in this case, a director) are “geniuses”, and thus everything they do needs to be constantly reappraised and re-evaluated until that self-evident genius becomes apparent, needs to

Matt Bomer as Blackbeard is super good. The real Thatch maybe wasn’t from Bristol, but he nails the West Country accent.

All we wanted was Blackflag without the Animus. Also being able to build out your pirate island in more detail. Ship upgrades that had more tiers for further levels possibly infinite.

What happened on Oct 7th happened every day in Gaza before and after October 7th, but it doesn’t get exclusive press screenings (ones only for select press who have to sign NDA’s).

Hamas is reacting to 75 of occupation and slaughter, Israel is committing genocide with the backing of the US. If you are a US citizen it is your duty to speak out against the genocide the US is backing and not “both sides” it.

Well today they mix with the Swifties, who are basically a cult at this point. Its sad watching them defend their gods

Taylor Swift doesn’t care about you dude

Imagine Sam Barsanti criticizing your lack of imagination. Bleak.

Okay as the pirate historian, this game is bizarre. The opening narration talks about capitalism and mega corporations, which doesn’t fit. Its set in 1695, East India Company is around but its not a global monster yet, and mercentalism is the dominate economic style, Adam Smith isn’t even born until 1723.

“.....and with tears in his eyes he thanked me for making the best movie ever.

The only thing I really get out of this is how the #FilmTwitter early review hype crew have perfected the art of sounding so amazingly insincere and manufactured in everything they say.

Yawn, fart.

this is a surprisingly bland review for what would, in A.V. Club days past, have been a hilariously scathing takedown. Manuel, do better next time.

Look, I believe your assessment of this movie is probably accurate. However, publishing a review this rife with grammatical errors undermines any critical authority it might have otherwise asserted. Doesn’t it feel like learning to proofread should maybe come before judging the creative efforts of others—especially
