You’re acting like adapting a book is easy

Always a treat to see AVC interviews that are primarily about a movie they panned.

Are you seriously trying to make the argument that people don’t take online outrage too far? Have you ever been on Twitter? It’s a pretty simple distinction: Genuine criticism vs. egoist performance. The difference is extremely obvious.

Alternatively: Di Caprio as Jesus. Jonah Hill as Peter. Margot Robbie as Mary Magdalene. Title: The Lamb of Nazareth

If you’re holding off because it seems too long, just wait until you actually try to watch it. Shit is boring.

I was initially excited for this. Then I saw it was releasing in January.

“Recreationally outraged” is a wonderful way to describe it.

No, but doesn’t it kind of defeat the entire justification for the movie being as toothless as it is?

This illustrates just how fucking cowardly it was for Fey to sand off the show’s corners - removing flippant references to things like suicide to avoid offending anyone. None of it came from a genuine place. This is more offensive than anything in the musical. Absolutely embarrassing.

I cannot describe the relief this makes me feel.

I’ve just explained it. Easy revenue over anything challenging or especially stimulating.

His marketability is why he’s a plant - the implication being that industry execs would rather Black audiences flock to someone who wouldn’t dream of leveling a single criticism at society than a comic with an edge. Hence Hart’s ridiculous oversaturation. Asses in seats are important, but asses in seats for future

Or, maybe filmmaking shouldn’t just be a process of putting together a trailer. Anyone with a good eye can compose a bunch of pretty shots.

Update: this movie does in fact look stupid as hell

After actually watching the trailer, I rescind my snark and confirm that this looks extremely stupid

I too love deciding what a movie is from a trailer. I’m really looking forward to seeing that new Justin Long movie Barbarian!

But what does Sean have to say on the subject?

Who spat in your coffee? God damn

Exactly this. It’ll never make my top 10, but I can’t deny that it’s probably the greatest movie ever made.

I watched Titanic for the first time this year having held your stance for decades. Your assumptions are wrong. It’s as perfect a movie as has ever been made.
