While I agree that the factions are definitely a bit large, I can see a post-apocalyptic empire in the modern US being able to hold quite a good deal of territory thanks to the prevalence of paved roads, particularly the highway system.

With this discovery, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri inches ever close to being a reality. I approve of this.
