I don't watch much of the TV programming nowadays, but I do use my TV (and PlayStation 3) as a sort of center of media consumption in the room. I watch downloaded shows and movies on the TV (streaming them from my PCs hard drive), play console games, sometimes even put on a playlist or whatever.

I heard the fan translation for Mother 3 is pretty much top notch, so it would be a good deal. They would cut costs, and people would love them for it. It would be simply stupid to not go with this.

The problem is that a publisher's role is also to fund the game. Funding the game means they take a risk by paying a developer to create a product, which means they care how it turns out.

This article sums up my general opinion about the game industry pretty well. As someone who has been in game development for a short while, I can do nothing but confirm your perspective, because even this one year showed how fundamentally broken this whole industry is.
