It's really good to see that there is such a write-up about this subject, and finally clears some of the misconceptions about games that end up underperforming.
The "Upgrade Assistant" download page only takes to a splash shop page or something, than I browse back to the assistant, and I'm there again. It's an infinite loop of not-downloading-compatibility-check.
